After writing a very persuasive email about why they would make a good digital leader, followed by a grilling interview, five digital leaders have been selected.
Tyler Nash, Ethan John-Garnon, Alice Baston, Amelia Young & Megan Bell have been appointed as the TBS Digital Leaders. They will start their roles after Easter. They will be training students & teachers on how to use software, apps and equipment. Testing out new software & equipment before they are used throughout the school and much more! Congratulations!
CyberFirst Challenge
Our Year 8 girls participated in the National CyberFirst Challenge. This competition is run by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). The girls worked as a team to complete complex online challenges after school over a number of weeks.
Bletchley Park Trip – Year 13s
“The visit to the National Museum of Computing was amazing. We have witnessed the famous Enigma machine in action as we decoded messages ourselves and learned about the history behind it. We have also learned about the Colossus computer and seen it function, and many more deciphering algorithms that helped us understand even more concepts of Computer Science in terms of ciphering.” by Gabriel Gabor (Year 13)
Coding Club
This club runs every Wednesday. We run lots of exciting projects each term such as building 2 wheeled robots and then writing programs to control them. All students are welcome.
Bebras and Oxford University Computing Challenge
Each year all the KS3 students participate in the Bebras and Oxford University Computing Challenge (OUCC) The pictured students qualified to participate in the second round the of the OUCC in 2022 answering a series of complex online computational and logical questions under timed conditions.
Computing Workshops
We have various workshops at the school including one in 2022 with Buckingham University. We are looking to add new workshops in the future.
My experience of the Buckingham University computing workshop by Louis Jones (Y8)
What we did
In the workshop, we learnt how to edit photographs and remove noise. To do this we used two mathematical processes: The Mean and The Median.
To blur an image, we took the average value out of the colours (each colour is assigned a number in accordance with its shade). From there, we then averaged the averages to find an even less refined value. This is then the colour for that pixel. If this process is repeated, then the blurring will be even stronger.
What I learnt
In this workshop, I learnt how to apply simple mathematical processes to an everyday life problem. This workshop showed me that nearly anything can be applied to any problem.
Other
I enjoyed the workshop because I thought it was well structured and well-presented because I learnt a lot of applicable skills. We were also visited by a robotic dog: Boston Dynamics’ Spot. This workshop made me feel inclined to take IT at university and consider Buckingham University as a potential future university.
