Year 8 Planter Project

It’s been a great few weeks for the DT department! We’ve been able to start getting back into the workshops with our KS3 students. Our year 8 classes have been working in teams to disassemble wooden pallets, turning them into large planters for wild flowers.

Students are learning how to use hand tools safely and confidently, and how to work  as part of a team in a manufacturing setting. The planters will be placed in suitable places around the two school sites. We are hoping they will attract lots of pollinating insects. Students are also hoping to gift some of the planters locally.

Thank you to those who have donated pallets, landscaping fabric, safety gloves and brand new hand saws!

Please contact Lucy.webb@thebicesterschool.org.uk if you are able to donate a bag of compost or a packet of wild flower seeds.

Year 7 Bug hotels

Our year 7s have been designing and planning giant bug hotels! It’s not quite time for getting into the workshop but we have been dodging the rain and working outside!  Students will make the solitary Bee their VIPs at their big hotel.

They have really enjoyed bringing things into school to include in the hotels and working together to come up with a whole class design idea! Photos to follow of the finished hotels and planters!
