The Key Stage 3 curriculum provides a clear grammatical progression and a useful range of skills, topics and vocabulary to prepare students to go on to study the new style (Grades 9-1) GCSE curriculum.
To see how we map students’ progression throughout Key Stages 3 and 4, please see our Progression Maps:
All students study Spanish
Single linguists continue with 4 lessons of Spanish per fortnight
Dual linguists study 2 lessons of French and 2 lessons of Spanish per fortnight
4 lessons of Spanish or French per fortnight
GCSE Year 10 and 11 (AQA Exam Board)
7 hours of Spanish or French per fortnight
A-level Year 12 and 13 (AQA Exam Board)
10 lessons of Spanish or French per fortnight
Students are formally assessed in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) three times a year. Each student has a Flight Path that maps the trajectory of their expected progress throughout Key Stages 3 and 4, and at each assessment point their progress is measured and then compared to the Flight Path to make sure they are at least on track.
