Matthew Wootton – Head of PE

Matthew graduated from the University of Worcester in 1997 with a BSc Honours degree in Sport Science.

Following his initial degree studies he travelled through South East Asia and Oceania.

He  completed his PGCE studies in 2003 at the De Montfort University in Bedford, with The Bicester School being his second teaching placement.

He has held many roles in the school including SSCo, Key stage 3 Progress Leader and Head of Year 7.

He has many sporting interests, having played Rugby and Cricket to a high level. He now focuses his effort in the sport of triathlon, having completed Ironman wales twice.


Michael Hume – Head of KS3

Michael graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2009 after studying Sports and Coaching studies with Geography. He then went on to complete his teacher training at Birmingham University in 2011.

Michael has taught at The Bicester School since 2012 and is currently Head of Pastoral for Key Stage 3.

Michael currently plays Basketball and Cricket for a local clubs and is a passionate American football fan supporting Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions.


Megan Wood – Teacher of PE and SSCo, Head of Year 7

Megan graduated from University of Chichester in 2014 after studying a BA (Hons) Physical Education and Teaching with QTS. After completing her NQT year at another school, she applied for a job at TBS.

Megan started teaching at The Bicester School in 2015 and has recently been appointed as the temporary Head of Year 7.  Megan is passionate about teaching PE and working with young people through sport. Within PE, Megan really enjoys coaching and attending fixtures with pupils from TBS, in particular Hockey, Netball and Rounders. Girls PE in particular, is a key area Megan focuses on, she has  high expectations of pupils attitude and behaviour in lessons and wants pupils to enjoy being active, learning new sports, rules and key messages through PE.

When Megan isn’t teaching she enjoys playing Netball for a local team and being active by trying new sports/ activities.


Daniel Courtney – Teacher of PE and Assistant Head of Year 7

Daniel graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2012 after studying Sports Coaching and Physical Education and later went to complete his PGCE at St Mary’s University in Twickenham.

Daniel has always had a passion for sport and currently plays both football and cricket for his local clubs. Alongside playing football he is a huge Arsenal fan. During the holidays and in his spare time he also likes spending as much time on the ski slopes.

Daniel had a successful first year at TBS leading the current year 8s to become the District Champions in rugby and also set up the schools annual ski trip to Italy.


Jack Burke – Teacher of PE and Business

Jack graduated from Oxford Brookes in 2013 studying Sports Coaching and Physical Education joint with Business Management. He then was an Intervention Interaction Para-Educator at Waingels College in Reading where his main responsibilities were to help students with SEND, mainly specialised in ADHD. Jack then went to Newman University in Birmingham to study for his PGCE in PE.

In Jack’s spare time he enjoys playing hockey, where when he was younger reached as far as playing for South England. He now focuses in golf and is a member at Hadden Hill and Waterstock Golf Club where he recently won the Club Championship.


Katie Franklin – Teacher of PE

Miss Franklin graduated from Loughborough University in 2016, and has gone on to convert her Sport and Exercise Science degree into a PGCE in 2017. Alongside her studies Miss Franklin is a keen sports woman, playing for a local football team and regularly attending the gym. Since joining TBS she has taken on the role of School Sports Co-Ordinator, organising festivals and sporting events for local primary schools.

As a passionate fitness enthusiast Miss Franklin is also running the Girls Activate club and is interested in increasing the opportunity for all age groups to experience a variety, and develop knowledge of health and fitness.


Ed Roberts – Teacher of PE and Science

Mr Roberts graduated from university in 2016 with a BSc in Sport, Coaching & Physical Education. He then went on to complete his teacher training at Exeter University specialising in PE the following year.

Mr Roberts is sports mad and if given an opportunity he’d like to be outside mountain biking or playing either Rugby, Football, Cricket & Ultimate Frisbee.
