Course content
Psychology is the science of the mind and behaviour. In Year 12, you will learn about social influence, memory, attachments, psychopathology and research methods. The Year 13 content includes issues and debates, forensic psychology, relationships and schizophrenia. This all ties in with scientific enquiry and mathematical calculations. There will also be an element of element of understanding of research.
You will experience a variety of teaching methods and styles, both classroom and field based. There will also be arranged trips throughout the course.
Progression
Students who study Psychology can go into a wide range of professions and on to further higher courses. Many universities regard psychology as a suitable subject for medical ambitions.
You may have an interest in helping or caring professions, counselling, nursing or occupational health. Psychology can be useful for anyone wanting to work in professions that involved organising people, whether that be in management, training or teaching.
You can progress onto degree courses in psychology, forensics, criminology, law, social work, medicine, nursing, philosophy, international relations, business studies and management, sport, physiotherapy and archaeology.
Equipment and other costs
Specific to this course, you will be expected to provide a small payment to cover all resources for the two-year course. For this contribution you will receive a prepared file with dividers, worksheets and trackers included. You will also be expected to contribute to the cost of any tickets for external events although these will often be subsidised.
Entry requirements
You should possess at least 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade 5, plus grade 6 in Combined Science or Biology.
Assessment
The exam board for this course is AQA.
You will have three theoretical written examinations at the end of the course under timed conditions.
