Students will create music to represent one paragraph of the story ‘Vincent’ by Tim Burton. This will be done in small groups and put together to form one whole class performance.

To be able to create (compose) and perform short musical ideas

Gamelan: Music of Indonesia

Students will play a piece of Gamelan music as a class, and then compose a piece of Gamelan to perform in small groups

To learn about the music and contextual features of Gamelan music and the instruments

To learn about different instrument roles in a piece of music

To learn how pitch is related to melody

To learn evaluate the use of scales in Gamelan and use them in compositions

Year 8 Music curriculum
Topic 1: Film music

Students will compose music to accompany a film trailer using the music technology programme mixcraft in pairs

To evaluate the use and manipulation of musical elements to represent film

To compose and extend musical ideas within a set time structure

To develop knowledge of music technology and use panning, samples, FX’s, and dynamic fades

The Blues (9 weeks)

Students will compose a piece of blues music to perform as a small group

To learn about the musical and contextual features of blues music

To learn the different roles of music parts like melody, bass line, rhythm and chords

To learn about chord structure and harmony

To use the knowledge above to create, develop and extend music ideas within a set genre and structure

(songs and grouping will be adjusted to suit the needs of the class)
