The Bicester School celebrates Good Ofsted rating

The Bicester School has been awarded a good rating following an Ofsted inspection on 5 and 6 June 2018.

The school was rated good across five of the six key categories, including: the effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development; behaviour and welfare; outcomes for pupils and overall effectiveness.

Inspectors were especially impressed with the school’s leadership and teaching quality, stating that:  “Leaders have a good understanding of the school’s strengths and weaknesses. Their commitment and focus have led to rapid improvements in teaching, behaviour and progress and a better curriculum.”

“The headteacher has insisted on high standards since his appointment. He has inspired the trust and confidence of leaders, governors and parents with his strongly held view of an excellent education for all.” The report also found that: “Pupils’ behaviour is good. Conduct around the school is calm and orderly. Pupils are well mannered and polite. Relationships between staff and pupils are very positive. Pupils are well cared for.”

Teaching standards were commended in the report: “Teachers work hard so that pupils learn well. Lessons are well planned and purposeful. Strong relationships between teachers and pupils support this positive atmosphere. One Year 8 pupil told inspectors, “I just want to emphasise that the staff here are really, really good.” Consequently, pupils’ progress is strong because they are challenged by the work that teachers set them.”

Inspectors also found that “Strong teaching, pupils’ positive attitudes and high expectations have ensured that current pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities, progress well.”

Tony Rushworth, Headteacher at The Bicester School – “I am delighted with this Ofsted report, which is a strong testament to our hard working staff, pupils and very supportive parents.”

Lee Nicholls, CEO of the Activate Learning Educational Trust – “As an ALET school, I am delighted that The Bicester School has been judged as a good  by Ofsted. I would like to congratulate the great work of all students, staff, governors and trustees that has contributed to this outcome for the school”.

David Dunne, Chair of Board of Governors – “I am delighted at the Ofsted result achieved by The Bicester School. It is wonderful to see the progress made by the school over the past four years.”
