Wednesday March 21 saw the final league game of the U19 Baksetball season and the boys got to play their final home game for The Bicester School. The team have been unbeaten this season and were up against an unbeaten St Clare’s side.
The game was close throughout with both teams playing a tough defence. The Bicester School had a slight lead at half time thanks to some strong outside shooting from Sanju Ghale and Lewis Mannerings. The game remained close throughout with several lead changes. With 2 minutes left in the match The Bicester School trailed by 4 points, when, Year 10 Ben Foster hit a great 3 point shoot to bring us within one. It stayed this way until 10 seconds from the end when The Bicester School had one final attack, the St Clare’s defence smothered Sanju and Lewis not allowing them to get their shoot off. The two players demonstrated great experience to find Ben Foster again open to attempt the match winning shot. Ben showed great nerve to get off an excellent shot and win the game. The Bicester School 35 – 34 St Clares.
The boys will now progress to the county final as champions of the development league. This result was a fitting way for seniors Lewis Mannerings, Sanju Ghale, Liam Gregor, Elliot Hale, Lewis Moore, Sam Rosoman & George Robinson to play their last home game for The Bicester School. These boys have given a tremendous amount of effort and time since Year 9. They have represented the school in Basketball over 30 times and never let the school down.
The boys have one more game, fingers crossed they can win the county cup.
