The Bicester School

On Monday 20th October, our year 12 Business students visited FLTR Coffee, a local independent coffee shop in Langford. On arrival, students were welcomed with hot drinks – hot chocolates, cappuccinos, and flat whites – which were greatly appreciated after the walk there in the rain!

The visit offered students an understanding into FLTR Coffee’s journey as a small local business, as well as how they have navigated challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, to remain successful. Founders Jeff and Christie shared their inspiring story, highlighting the importance of leadership and how they have cultivated a culture of innovation, creativity, and generosity amongst employees.

Students then conducted an interview-style session asking questions about key business concepts including suppliers, aims and objectives, and costs. The level of engagement was outstanding, and we could have easily spent hours more asking questions and learning about the business.

This trip will now inform students’ first piece of BTEC Coursework, where they will compare and contrast FLTR Coffee with a multinational business. All students left feeling really inspired by the visit and have began typing up their coursework already.

A huge thank you to FLTR Coffee for their generosity and insight, and to the Year 12 students for representing The Bicester School so brilliantly!
