Report by Paige Stevenson
On Thursday 4 April, The Bicester School community came together for something truly special – the TBS Charity Mile.
Organised by our passionate School Ambassadors, with the goal of raising funds for Cancer Research UK and collecting donations for the Bicester Foodbank, students and staff were encouraged to walk, run, cycle or swim a mile in the name of charity.
Making a splash
In the pool 15 swimmers of all ability levels pushed through and completed a fantastic seven miles – that’s an incredible 455 lengths!
One of the swimmers, Zara Green, said:
“I liked the charities the money was going to. I was tired afterwards but happy because I finished it.”
When asked if she’d do it again, she didn’t hesitate:
“Yes, definitely!”
Running, cycling and sweet treats
Outside the pool teachers and students joined forces to complete their own Charity Miles by running or biking. The event was made even more enjoyable with an Easter egg hunt and a cake sale.
Together, this group clocked up an impressive 45 miles.
History teacher Mr Maddox, who took part in the run, said:
“I love to run, and it’s really important and nice to help others – it was great seeing everyone else doing it too.”
The final tally
In total, the school community completed a combined 52 miles and raised an amazing £600 for Cancer Research UK. Additionally, a generous collection of food and supplies was made for the Bicester Foodbank, helping support local families in need.
The School Ambassadors, who organised and led the event, said:
“We want to thank everyone who took part and supported the event, and all who donated to such amazing causes. We couldn’t have done it without you!”
Thank You, Team TBS!
The TBS Charity Mile was a resounding success thanks to the spirit, generosity, and determination of everyone involved. Whether you swam, ran, baked, donated, or cheered from the sidelines – you made a difference.
Here’s to making next year’s event even bigger and better!
