On 29th and 30th June, just over 100 Year 8 students enjoyed two fantastic days exploring the stunning coastal scenery of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
Across the two days, students had the opportunity to see coastal processes in action and bring their geography learning to life in one of the most beautiful coastal locations in the country. Mrs Withers was particularly excited to talk about tourism, Mrs Roberts was loving the coastal and river processes while Mr Brown shared his expert knowledge of limestone, chalk and the fascinating geology of the area.
We may also have managed to get Miss Beauchamp and Mr Allum fully converted to geology, as they were caught red-handed looking for fossils in the rocks at Lulworth Cove. Miss Brooks also enjoyed reliving her A-level dream of coastal geography, much to everyone’s delight.
The walk from Lulworth Cove over to Durdle Door was certainly a challenge, but Year 8 approached it brilliantly and were rewarded with incredible views, amazing photo opportunities and, of course, some very well-earned ice creams and slushies.
There were plenty of highlights from the trip, including some truly enormous ice creams, fantastic singing on the buses, especially from Kendall, Shay and Kiera, and some excellent answers during our fieldwork bingo activities. Most importantly, the students really got stuck into the geography and represented the school superbly throughout.
A huge thank you to all the staff involved in making the two days such a success, especially Mrs Mellor, Miss Kirby and Miss Fry for providing moral support and excellent banter at all times.
