KS3 PHYSICAL EDUCATION

‘To develop a love of physical activity for lifelong participation’

The PE department are very passionate about physical activity and sport, believing that there is a sport or activity for everyone.

The department prides itself on personalised teaching that gives every pupil the opportunity to reach their potential by building upon existing skills through the progressive schemes of work.

In line with the Bicester School values we want our students to be Resilient. We take this to mean, do the best you can do, try as hard as you can and focus on your performance and how it can be improved by the teaching and feedback you receive.

The second school value, Responsibility, we encourage students to take ownership for their work in lessons. Through carefully planned teaching and clear expectations, students know what they need to do to improve and be able to work as individuals or as part of pairs or groups to improve their competence in the activity being taught.

The Third value is Respect for self and respect for others – students are encouraged to take a great personal pride in everything they do. This links into students having the correct kit to participate, being respectful to each other in the feedback and communication they have with each other. We want all students to show care, consideration and compassion for those around them Working together as a team.

With these as our aims, we aim to offer a curriculum that all students can engage with, that presents challenge and enthuses students into lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.

Curriculum

We deliver a curriculum that is drawn from a vast array sports and activities, this gives us a great basis for helping students to find the sport or activity for them.

Lessons are timetabled so that students have four lessons per fortnight, taught in ability-based groups.

Sports and activities are delivered for the duration of each half term, to allow students to get a good skill and knowledge base for the sport or activity.

The National Curriculum is used as the foundation for out lesson delivery, where we seek to:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Be Physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy active lives

Our lessons have three objectives on which we give feedback. They are:

      • Performance, the physical development of the fitness or skill
      • Application of knowledge, this relates to termly topics that relate to the knowledge required for GCSE PE
      • Holistic development, which links well into the school value of resilience, it focuses on developing personal qualities needed to be successful in life.
