BTEC CHILD DEVELOPMENT

KS5 brings a new level of independence to our learners, some will be studying on a BTEC only pathway, whilst others will be on a mixed pathway, self-management is key to success through the two years in the sixth form.

Learners will start the course with an induction which includes some key transferrable skills that will help to stay organised and become successful self-managers.

  • Learners will have nine lessons a fortnight and will follow the Pearson BTEC Level Nationals programme.
  • Year 12: Early childhood development  AAQ (2025) specification
  • Year 13: Children’s play, learning and development extended certification (2016) specification
  • Some learners will have experience of Level 2 BTEC’s, whilst other will be new to BTEC’s.  The format at Level 3 is very similar to Level 2; learners will complete four units over the two years.
  • Year 1: 1x external assessment (May) + 1x internal assessment (approx. 12 hours)
  • Year 2: 1x external assessment (Jan) + 1x internal assessment (approx.. 18 hours)
