A LEVEL FURTHER MATHEMATICS
A Level Further Mathematics is an excellent course for those planning to study Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, and many other subjects at degree level or beyond. Many universities will be keen to accept students with an A Level Further Mathematics qualification and appreciate that it is a very challenging qualification to achieve. It is common for students to choose this as a fourth subject and it can therefore be completed as an AS-Level, rather than a full A Level. Further Mathematics has Core units and elective units from which students can choose two options, including Further Pure, Further Mechanics, Further Statistics, and Decision.
We use the Edexcel exam board for A Level Further Mathematics. The course is assessed through exams only, with four exams at the end of the two-year course. Papers 1 and 2 cover Core Pure mathematics, while Papers 3 and 4 cover the elective units. The four papers are equally weighted, with 75 marks available for each and each paper is 90 minutes.
To take A Level Further Mathematics, you need to really enjoy solving mathematical problems and want to devote a significant amount of your time to it. A Grade 8 or 9 at GCSE is essential.
