A LEVEL PHILOSOPHY & ETHICS
At KS5 students will follow the AQA Religious Studies A Level Specification 7062.
In this they will study philosophy, ethics, and Christianity. In doing so it will give them a knowledge of philosophical arguments for the existence of God, questions of how evil disproves God, whether religious experiences or miracles are real, and if there is any existence after death.
In ethics they will look at the key ethical theories ranging from Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics, Aquinas’ Natural Moral Law, to Fletcher’s Situation Ethics. These theories will be applied to issues like abortion, genetic engineering, lying, and theft. In Christianity students will learn the key beliefs Christianity has about the nature of God, the sources of wisdom and authority, the behaviour and conduct Christians should follow, and Christianity’s response to modern issues of gender and sexuality, science, and secularism.
