Students explore future careers in sport and health
Year 10 GCSE students recently enjoyed an immersive Engagement Day at Oxford Brookes University, diving into the exciting fields of sport, health, and physical activity. Hosted by the BSc Sport, Physical Activity and Health programme, the event showcased how science, technology, and public service intersect to promote wellbeing.
Students rotated through hands-on workshops that brought university-level concepts to life. In the Exercise Physiology session, they acted as researchers, performing fitness tests to learn how the body reacts to exercise. The Clinical Populations and Rehabilitation workshop offered powerful insights into living with health conditions – students wore bariatric suits to understand obesity-related challenges and explored virtual reality tools used in rehabilitation.
In the Public Health session, attention turned to how health policies and community initiatives can create lasting impact. Through discussion and planning activities, students considered how they could contribute to reducing health inequalities and encouraging active lifestyles.
The visit was both inspiring and informative, leaving students with a deeper understanding of potential careers in sport and health sciences – and a new appreciation for how physical activity shapes healthier societies.
